The beer belly is not just a hazard for your looks but also for your health.
Our bellies may grow uninterrupted until they grow big enough to cause some health hazards. The beer belly is not just a hazard for your looks but also for your health.
Here are some of the bad effects of beer or pot belly:
1. Unfit body. Having a big belly can make your movements sluggish or slow
2. High cholesterol. Big belly means an unhealthy lifestyle and may require a regular check of your blood cholesterol level.
3. Damaged liver. Beer belly develops as a result of drinking too much alcohol. This may damage the liver.
4. Hypertension. Obesity in general and potbelly in particular increases the likelihood of having hypertension. Too much cholesterol may also block blood vessels and compound the problem of hypertension.
5. Infertility. Obesity may cause infertility in both males and females. In females, it may be associated with anovulation and therefore no fertile period. In males, obesity increases body temperature which may affect sperm count.
6. Dementia. Studies have shown that there is some association between pot belly and dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
It is therefore advised to prevent or at least correct pot belly. Diet and exercise will do the trick.
