Holidays are times of family, festive parties and food, food, food, all of which add up to bloating and indigestion.
Indigestion typically feels like burning pains in the abdomen, accompanied by bloating, gurgling, belching and gas. It is caused and made worse by overeating especially rich, fatty, spicy food, alcohol, coffee, and acidic food.
This holiday season, put healthy habits in place to get your digestion on the right track. Following are some suggestions:
- Spice up your digestion. Fennel as a side ingredient to your salads, meat, beans, and legumes will remedy the digestive distress.
- Ease your emotions. Emotional distress affects the function of the liver. Dandelion tea aids digestion by supporting the liver function.
- Chew each bite thoroughly. Your stomach does not have teeth to grind solid food that reach it.
- Take a walk. Walking stimulates the energy flow and promotes digestion.
- Don’t take bloating lying down. Curling for a nap is a natural response to a filling meal, resist the urge.
- Herbs for indigestion. Peppermint, ginger, and chamomile are excellent herbs to settle the stomach.
- Take remedies. Dissolve 1 tsp of baking soda in an 8 oz cup of warm water.
A good alternative is 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar in 12 oz. of warm water. Add a little honey if the taste is too strong. Drink it in the morning on an empty stomach.
Happy Holidays and enjoy the parties.
